amara1783I do not back myself to recognise racism or transphobia in my own work because I am hampered by my white and cis privilege, so I would consider it a big favour if you point it out to me, because you are helping me towards being the person I want to be, and that is an act of love.
I'm a cis queer disabled white woman - I know I have unintentionally reproduced homophobic, ableist and misogynist/sexist narratives over the years, both in fiction and in other work. How then would it be possible for me not to be racist or transphobic, despite my best intentions? Many of us are reproducing racist and transphobic narratives in fanfic because we grew up in a racist and transphobic world - it's what we know. But something can be not (entirely) my fault, but still be my responsibility to fix.
Personal commitment from me on racism (including intersections with misogyny/sexism etc such as misogynoir) and transphobia (including intersections with misogyny/sexism etc such as transmisogyny) in my fic - please let me know, in whatever tone you want - and I will engage with that. It may take a bit of time to get through my head - for me to unlearn what the world has taught me, and also because some days reading and processing words are hard for me.
But I will engage, because we all deserve a world without racism or transphobia. And I will either take it down, change it, or I will tag it and discuss the racism/transphobia in author's notes, as a learning example/thing - whatever seems most appropriate.
